FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
ON HEELS OF A CLEAR MANDATE FROM THE SUPER MAJORITY VOTE IN THE MAINE HOUSE & SENATE, ADVOCACY GROUPS FORM THE CANNABIS COUNCIL OF MAINE
(AUGUSTA, ME. August 5, 2021) On Wednesday the Medical Marijuana Caregivers of Maine, Maine Growers Alliance, Maine Craft Cannabis Association and the Maine Cannabis Coalition met to officially form the Cannabis Council of Maine, an advisory group consisting of the leaders of the four cannabis advocacy associations from throughout the state of Maine. The Cannabis Council was created to more efficiently advocate for Maine’s 100,000 patients and thousands of caregivers, and to ensure that marijuana regulations are written which support and foster these participants in the marijuana industry of Maine. The role of the Cannabis Council will be to contribute to marijuana rulemaking, patient safety, and production guidelines which support the thousands of small marijuana businesses, patients, and adults in Maine.
During the 2021 legislative session, members of the Council were asked by the Veterans and Legal Affairs committee to create an alternative set of medical marijuana rules to those rules submitted by the Office of Marijuana policy (OMP). In conjunction with the passage of LD 1242 by overwhelming legislative support there is now space for the MMMP industry to participate in the building of regulatory MMMP rules with the Office of Marijuana Policy.
The Cannabis Council is actively engaging with the Office of Marijuana Policy and the Legislature to ensure that the rules for the marijuana industry support the people of Maine.
